| Equipment
Our major equipment consists of four advanced life support (ALS) ambulances, one heavy rescue, one rescue boat, a car, and a Suburban.
Our car (Fort Mill 210) is primarily used for transportation to out-of-area training and "third person" crew members meeting the ambulances on-scene. Our Suburban
(Fort Mill 215) is used to assist with rescues in terrain that an ambulance may not be able to go (such as horse trails on the greenway). It is also used to carry
equipment in bad weather situations such as ice storms.
Our goal is to staff one ALS crew 24 X 7, 365 days a year with our first primary truck and another crew from 7am to 7pm for a second truck.
Additional trucks are manned in peak times, if the manpower is available. We have one full crew each night of the week. If a simultaneous second or third call
goes out in our area, "off duty" members respond to the building for the "secondary" trucks. Our call volume has increased to the point that second calls
are common and third and fourth calls are also occurring.
In addition to responding to other calls and backing up the primary truck, secondary trucks are used to stand-by at community events
as well as allow for maintenance of the units without effecting community coverage.
Fort Mill Rescue has the primary rescue responsibility for the Fort Mill community. These responsibilities include extrication,
water rescue, high/low angle rescue as well as trench and confined space rescue. We are considered the primary responder for all of York County
for all trench and confined space rescue situations. We also respond to mutual-aid requests from other fire and rescue agencies in Mecklenburg,
Lancaster, and York counties.
All of the trucks are available to the York County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for responding anywhere in the region should
other EMS resources be unavailable. |
